Spacious Place...REHOBOTH!!

Pericope: Genesis 26: 1 – 4, 12 – 15
Sermon Text: Genesis 26: 13 The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy
Sermon Title: Living in the Spacious Place: Rehoboth

Point 1: Isaac replanted during a famine (vs. 1, 12) Now there was a famine in the land—besides the earlier famine of Abraham’s time—and Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines in Gerar 12 Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him. In the text the writer wants to make a few things explicitly clear from the outset.

Gen 26: 3 Stay in this land for awhile [famine land] and I will be with you and will bless you. Paul puts it this way in Galatians 6: 7, 9 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Let us not become weary in well doing, for at the proper time you will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Let me give you three parallels for planting:
(a) Social drought Keep planting honest relationships
(b) Family drought Keep planting commitment
(c) Financial drought Keep planting tithes

Point 2: Isaac removed himself from haters vs. 16 Then Abimelech said “move away from us you have become too powerful for us.” When Isaac begin to be blessed just as God promised haters begin to appear.
(a)
(b)

Point 3: Isaac redig his father’s wells vs. 18 Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham…
Isaac begin to reclaim his father’s property
(a)
(b)

Point 4: Isaac renamed the wells (vs. 18b, 20, 21) he gave them the same names his father had given them. So he named the well Esek…he named the well Sitnah

Although the text said Isaac named the wells the same name his father named them it appears there names was renamed after the haters came.

Conclusion: My Story…What will your story be?
