How to Pass a Test

Wednesday, August 31, 2016
PericopeJohn 6:5, 6 - 5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
TitleHow to Pass a Test
Point 1:  The Test is Meant to grow you not grade you.  vs. 6 - 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
Point 2:  The Test is meant to get you to speak up.  Vs. 7, 8 - 7 Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages[a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” 8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up,
Point 3:  The Test is meant to get you to follow instructions.  Vs. 10 - 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there).
1 Corinthians 10:13 - no temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

The Road to Destiny - 11am Sermon

Sermon Text: John 4: 4 He had to pass through Samaria. ESV Jesus must need go through Samaria KJV
Sermon Title: The Road to Destiny!
Point 1: The first stop is the well [Jacobs Well] 7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.”
Point 2: The second stop is when the woman is changed 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”
Point 3: The third stop is when the woman changed the town 39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.”
Point 4: The fourth stop is when the town hears/believes Jesus vs 39 – 42 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”

What R U Hungry 4? 830am Sermon

830am
Sermon Text: John 4: 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.
Sermon Title: What are you Hungry for?
Point 1: It matters what you eat vs. 32 “…I have food to eat that you do not know.”
Jesus response to the disciples on the surface seems curt and cryptic. It’s as if Jesus is trying to be deep, but he really isn’t. Jesus is saying the same thing he told Satan in Matt 4: 4…man should not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Point 2: It matters when you eat vs. 31 Meanwhile the disciples sought him [Jesus] saying, Rabbi, eat.”
1.  Pray without ceasing 1 Thess. 5: 17
2.  Peace Keep your mind on Jesus Isaiah 26: 3 you keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
3.  Proclaiming 1 Peter 3: 15 Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who calls you to account for the hope that is in you
Point 3: It matters how you eat 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.
1.  Worship You must have a life of worship Luke 10: 21 In the same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth…
2.  Word The word is your main course 2 Tim 2: 15…rightly divide the word…
3.  Work We have been saved to serve Eph. 2: 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Life Application:
1.  Determine now when you are going to eat God’s word
2.  Determine what word you will eat

Jesus is Sooo Xtra - Enough to Go Around

Sermon Text: John 3: 23 John also was baptizing…

Sermon Title: Jesus is Sooo Extra: Enough to Go Around

Point 1: There is enough water to go around vss. 22 – 23 22 After this Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and he spent some time there with them and baptized. 23 John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim there was much water there; and people kept coming and were being baptized

Point 2: There will always be Hater Aiders vss. 25 – 27 25 Now a discussion about purification arose between John’s disciples and a Jew. 26 They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you testified, here he is baptizing, and all are going to him.” 27 John answered, “No one can receive anything except what has been given from heaven

Point 3: There will always be a place for you with Jesus vss. 28(b) – 30 28 You yourselves are my witnesses that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah, but I have been sent ahead of him.’ 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. For this reason my joy has been fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.”
John tells you them three things that enables him not to compare himself to Jesus and not hate on Jesus.
1.   He knows who he is not… I am not the Messiah
2.   He knows who he is… friend of the bridegroom
3.  He knows the process… He must increase, but I must decrease.”

Point 4: Jesus got yours don’t worry 4: 1 – 3 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard, “Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John” —although it was not Jesus himself but his disciples who baptized— he left Judea and started back to Galilee.

Life Application:

b.  In reading his word…how often do you read?
