The 90/10 Principle: Release The Seed - 11am Sermon

Sermon Text: Malachi 3: 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
Sermon Title: The 90/10 Principle: Release The Seed
Point 1: The Problem Israel has withheld their tithes to God and God is highly insulted by this. Malachi 3:6-9, “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’ 8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me.
a.  Rebellion – when you pick and choose which scripture you will live Malachi 3:7 NIV, Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’
b.  Robbery – robbers on your row…you are not only robbing God of his tithe you are robbing him of your love. 8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings.
c.   Repercussions - Malachi 3:9 NIV, You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me.
Point 2: Prescription
a.  Plant – tithes and offering auto the important…auto
39 references in the bible about tithes
Matthew 23:23 NIV, “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
b.  Place – Where do I bring the tithe? Into the storehouse.
c.   Prove – The Hebrew for prove as it is used here means investigate me put me to the test
Point 3: Promises God’s promises are yes and amen! God keeps his word. Malachi 3:10-12, Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty. God will keep his word in four ways:
a.  Performs – There is nothing better when God performs for you and  “on you”
b.  Pour Hebrew – empty out
c.   Protects – vs. 11(a), I will prevent pests from devouring your crops,
d.  Prosper - vs. 11(b), and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty.

11AM SERMON The 90-10 Principle: Up in Smoke

Sermon Text:  Gen. 1:28 - God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Sermon Title:  The 90-10 Principle: Up in Smoke
Point 1:  Rotten Fruit
Proverbs 22:7 NIV, The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.
Wednesday night I taught you the Hebrew definition of borrower and lender. It means to be joined to something or somebody. The difference is the lender is in the superior position and the borrower is in the subordinate position. Proverbs makes it  more graphic than that. It says if you are a borrower you are a slave.
Point 2:  Spoiled Fruit
Romans 12:2 NIV, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Paul tells us how dig deeper into debt even though we know intuitively the path we are on is destructive. We know we are in bondage but are held captive by what seems like a supernatural force. In most cases it's our very own minds that are the culprits. Paul says don't be conformed to the pattern of the world. The pattern of the world is buy now pay later.
Proverbs 14:12 NIV, There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 16:25 NIV, There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.
Point 3: Un-Picked Fruit
Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: …
Proverbs tells us that we shouldn't pick every piece of fruit that we make. There will come a time when you will need a little help. The literature tells us we should have an emergency fund equal to at least 1 - 3 months of bills saved up. Here is why? You never know when a famine will come. Gen 41: 28 - 33
Life Application:
1.  Make a plan to get out of debt and stick to it
2.  Get help the church financial coaches are in the lobby

3.  Get Jesus

830AM SERMON - The 90-10 Principle: Debt Trap

Sermon Text:  2 Kings 4:1 NIV, The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”
Sermon Title:  The 90-10 Principle: Debt Trap
Point 1:  How did we get here?
Vs. 1 - 1 NIV, The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”
What is it that the father wanted so bad that he mortgage himself for and now his sons have got to pay the bills with their lives? What did the family decide to buy that the debt is so big the creditor cannot wait until the father is cold in the ground before he is knocking at the door wanted to get paid.
Point 2: It’s in your House
vs. 2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” What shall I do
Elisha tells her the problem and the answer to the problem is in the house. Whatever has caused them to be in debt I am sure you can find in their house. Whether it's the flat screen TV, clothes, new car in the garage or something else. The problem is in your house not next door at your neighbors house.
Not only is the problems found in the house the answer to the problem is in the house as well. Elisha ask her what's in the house and notice her answer… nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil. The answer tells us she doesn't regard the little she has as being capable of getting her out of her dilemma.
Point 3: Follow the Plan
vs. 3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few.
Elisha gives her specific instructions as to how to pay off this debt. First check and see how many jars you have in your house. Then go get more jars from your neighbors. Vs. 4 says Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side." Vs. 5 She left him and afterward shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she keep pouring. Vs. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another one." But he replied, "there is not a jar left." Then the oil stopped flowing. On the surface everything he is saying seems to make no sense, but it paid off.
Point 4: The plan will pay off
2 Kings 4: 7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left."
Again nestled in the text is revelation we often over look. The money she makes is so much not only do pay their debts but have enough to live on. There is no mention of getting a job. They have enough to satisfy their needs for the rest of their lives.
Life Application:
1.  Receive/follow the instructions – miracles always follow instructions...2 fish & 5 loaves of bread, Moses w/staff in his hand
2.  Ask for help

3.  Ask for Jesus

Finishing Faith: Don't Tap Out!

Sermon Text: Hebrews 12: 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus the author and [finisher] perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Sermon Title: Finishing Faith: Don't Tap Out!
Point 1: Fix your eyes on Jesus vs. 2a Let us fix our eyes on [stare at] Jesus
Point 2: Set your joy beside your cross vs. 2b…who for the joy set before him endured the cross…
Point 3: Run your race vs. 1b…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Point 4: Refuse to be lazy vs. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Galatians 6: 9 Be not weary in [living the faith] well doing in due season you will reap if you faint not [if you don't give up]. When we look at the life of Jesus we see he never got lazy.

BE A FINISHER - 830AM SERMON

Pericope: Phil 1: 1 - 6
Sermon Text:  Phil 1: 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus
Sermon Title:  Be a Finisher!
Point 1:  You must have FaithRomans 10:17 - 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
When Paul told the church at Rome what grows faith he gave all of us a revelation I think most of us miss. He said faith comes or grows as a result of you hearing the message or the gospel repeatedly. The more often you hear it the more your faith will grow. What I believe we miss is in order for you to hear the message the message must be said. Therefore, my faith is increased OR decreased by the words that come out of my mouth.
Point 2: You must have FireRev. 3:15-16 - 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
John requires his church to be fired up. When Jesus church is lukewarm then God gets an upset stomach. He vomits them out. He cannot stomach lukewarm only fired up. Why? Because lukewarm is dangerous.
Point 3:  You must have FellowshipEccl 4:9-12 - 9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
10 If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
12 Though one may be overpowered,
    two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
I love the poetic way Solomon helps us digest this truth about fellowship. The bottom line is two is better than one any day of the week. You cannot be a finisher by yourself. It's going to take each of helping one another across the finish line. This cannot and will not be the year of selfishness. It's not all about you this year. It's all about somebody you can help make it.
Point 4:  You must be FruitfulGen. 1:28 - 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
The first thing out of God's mouth to humanity after he created us is be fruitful and have dominion. So there should never be any question about how we should be fruitful. If any area of your life isn't bearing fruit you should be terribly disturbed. Here are the basic keys to being fruitful. PLANT! Pour water! PLUCK what you see. This formula works no matter what isn't growing in your life:
1.  Spiritual Plant! Pour water! Pluck what you see
2.  Finances Plant! Pour water! Pluck what you see
3.  Family Plant! Pour water! Pluck what you see
