Enough is Enough!

SERMON TITLE: Enough is Enough!
SERMON TEXT: Kings 19: 4, 8 while he himself went a day’s journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” 8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (NIV)

·       Depression is easy to detect when you know some of the signs;
o   changes in sleeping habits
o   irritable
o   cannot maintain a consistent train of thought
o   eating habits change (eat everything or nothing)
o   emphasizing only the negative never the positive
o   lose of focus and purpose
·       This applies to spiritual depression as well
o   Your resting habits change, you don’t rest in the Lord
o   You are irritable because your joy is gone
o   You are weak because the joy of the Lord is your strength
o   Your eating habits change—you don’t want to eat/study/read the word which is your food
o   You fail to employ the words of the Psalmist that bless the Lord all my soul and forget not his benefits
o   The main thing you want to do when you are depressed is give up.
Point 3 – HE WAS RESTORED – VS. 5 - 5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep.  All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”
to Psalm 91:11 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; (NIV) and HEB. 1:14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? (NIV)

Point 4 – HE RETURNED TO THE FIGHT – VS. 8 -  8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.

Point 5 – RENEWED HIS SWAGVS. 9-13
1 Kings 19:9-13 9 There he went into a cave (in Mt. Horeb/Sinai) and spent the night. And the word of the LORD came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”10 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” 11 The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Point 2: Discouragement destroys faith Habakkuk 1: 2 - 4, 13
