Family is Fundamental

Sermon Text:  1 Tim 3:5; If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church? Genesis 37: 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented robe for him.
Sermon Title:  My New Life Forward 2016 Pt 5: Family is Fundamental

Point 1:  You have a destiny in spite of the dysfunction. Genesis 37:3(KJV) 3ff Now Israel [formally Jacob] loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. (4) When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kin word to him. (5) Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more…

Point 2:  Let God develop you through the dysfunction. Gen 39: 10 And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.

Point 3:  You have to be determined in the dysfunction. Gen 40: 23 The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him. 41: 1 When two full years passed, Pharaoh had a dream… (9) Then the chief cupbearer said to Pharaoh, “Today I am reminded of my shortcomings…

Point 4:  The dysfunction is by design. Gen 50:20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good....”

Life application:
1.   Forgive whoever hurt you in your dysfunctional family and move forward
2.  Put your dysfunctional family in the hands of God

3.  Don't repeat the dysfunction in your family

b)  Pleases God vs 18c…an acceptable sacrifice pleasing to God

Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. “But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’
8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me.10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty.

My New Life Forward Part 1

Pericope: Acts 9: 1 – 9
Sermon Text: Acts 9: 6 - Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
Sermon Title: My New Life FORWARD Pt 1
Introduction:
In the text we find one of the best examples of a change of direction in the bible. Paul was going as hard as humanly possible in the wrong direction. He was convinced his way was the right way and it would get him the results he wanted. He was smart, so he was not going in the wrong direction out of ignorance. He was well learned in the word so he wasn’t going in the wrong direction due to little knowledge in the word. Paul loved God but that didn’t keep him from going in the wrong direction. Paul had a great reputation so he wasn’t going in the wrong direction due to lack of influence. Paul had done all the right things in life up to this point, but he was still going in the wrong direction. Paul is proof you can be in the church, in God, well learned and still going in the wrong direction. Paul is full proof you can be completely ignorant that you are going in the wrong direction while thinking you are going in the right direction.
Paul’s new life forward begin on the Road to Damascus. Interestingly enough he is on a journey which turns out to be the journey of his life. We too are on a journey in 2016 and it is the journey of our lives. We have to make the right decisions so we can go in the right direction. In order to do so we have to do at least four things on our 2016 journey. Revelation. Consecration. Subjugation. Confirmation.

Point 1: Your New Life FORWARD has to have REVELATION vs. 3 – 5 (3) …suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. (4) He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul… (5) Who are you, Lord?” “I am Jesus

Point 2: Your New Life FORWARD has to have CONSECRATION vs. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.

Point 3: Your New Life FORWARD has to have SUBJUGATION vs. 8…So they led him by the hand into Damascus.

Point 4: Your New Life FORWARD has to have CONFIRMATION
vs. 17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” (18) Immediately something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes

Life Application:
1.  Change direction
2.  Do the 40 Day Consecration
3.  Attend a small group
