Order in the House....This is the Way We Roll

Lesson Summary – 25 Aug 10

Lesson Text: Josh 24:15 KJV
Sermon Series: Dominion In A Hip-Hop Culture
Lesson Title: “Order in the House: This Is The Way We Roll”

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day who ye will serve;
whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or
the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will
serve the LORD. ”

The Israelites have crossed over into the Promised Land. They are now in a time of rest from the enemies that surround them. Joshua has called the people together to remind them of what the Lord has done up to this point. He tells them their story – from Abram to Egypt, from Egypt to the Exodus, from the Red Sea to the wilderness, from the Jordan to the promise. Joshua reminded them that even though the promise has been granted, there is still work to do – they must have dominion.

“But mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.”
2 Tim 3:1-5 NIV

We live in perilous times, chaos is all about. Chaos does not breed order; it breeds chaos. The only way to have dominion in this hip-hop culture is to have order.
• Me and my house
o House (as used in the text): a place of blessing; a place having bread
o Bethlehem: house of bread
• Dominion is synonymous with house
o Where there is chaos, there is no blessing
o Cannot acquire the things of God when the house is in chaos.
• By definition, my house is blessed
o Not about “stuff”
o My job is to have dominion in my house

This Is The Way We Roll
1. The Role of Man
2. The Role of Woman
3. The Role of Children

Point 1: The Role of Man – The Three L’s (Language, Law, Legacy)
The Character of Man: Partnership, Visionary, Authority
A Man does three things –
• Leads – Eph 5:23
• Loves – Eph 5:25
o a Man leads the way Christ leads
o a model for the relationship between man and wife

• Christ represents the man, the church represents the wife
• Served the church
• Washed the church
• Was crucified for the church
• Died for the church
o In charge of a team
• Everybody has gifts/talents
• Uses the gifts/talents of everyone to make the team better
• Loves – Eph 5:25
o A Man loves the way Christ loves
• Christ gave himself for the church, making her holy
• Learns – 1 Pet 3:7
o A Man studies his wife so that he may learn her and be considerate of her
• Women are cyclic; learn the rhythm and the flow of her
• Women are the weaker vessel, yet they are heirs with the man; equality in God

Point 2: The Roll of Woman
The Character of Woman: Accountability, Remembers Everything, Built to Last
A Woman does three things –
• Minister
• Helper
• Submissive

Family Dominion...A Blessed Family: LifeNotes 08112010

LIFENOTES – August 11th
Sermon Text:  Gen 1: 28a KJV
Sermon Title:  Dominion In A Hip-Hop Culture Series:  “A Blessed Family”

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply,
and replenish the earth, and subdue it”

The first thing God did after He created Adam and Eve was to bless them.  The original perspective here is that they were already blessed.  So it is with you and I; we are already blessed.  Therefore, your present situation is temporary – it is the interim stage. No matter what you are going through, it is a pathway or a stair step to your blessing.  Satan comes to break you from the original perspective; to make you think you can make things happen without God.

What must you do to have dominion in this hip-hop culture?  How can you have a blessed family?

            Point 1:  U Must Believe U R Blessed – Gen 3:5
“For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
·         Adam and Eve did not believe this; Satan was able to manipulate them.
·         You are not blessed and it is God’s fault.  God is holding out on you.
·         Satan attacked their identity.  He convinced them there were not who they                                 were.
If you don’t believe you are blessed, you will
a.       listen to Satan and hear the wrong thing
·         Rev 3:6 NIV
b.       lean to your own understanding
·         do not follow a reprobate mind (does what ought not be done)
·         Prov 3:5-7 NIV
c.       live a lie
·         believe the truth – I am blessed
·         Num 22:12

Point 2:  Choices Chart Your Trajectory – Gen 3:6
“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.  She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”
·         God never takes away your choices
a.       Choose today – Josh 24:15 NIV
b.       Make up your mind – Deut 28:1, 2, 15 NIV

Point 3:  Mistakes Don’t Misplace Your Blessings – Gen 3:15
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
·         No matter how many mistakes we make, we are still blessed and receive blessing from God.
·         Biblical Example – Abraham and Sarah

o   Lied – Gen 12:13; 20:2
§  Abraham told Sarah to tell Pharoah that she was his sister so that he would not be killed.
§  Abraham lied to Abimelech and told him Sarah was his sister.
o   Laughed at God – Gen 17:17
§  Abraham fell down laughing when God told him that he had Sarah would have a son in their old age.
o   Lingered – Gen 12:10
§  Abraham went to Egypt because of a famine and lived there.
o   Lost It – Gen 16:2
§  Sarah became impatient while waiting for God’s promise and took matters into her own hands.

Life Applications/Conclusions:

The first thing God did was to bless them.  Because we are blessed, there is no need to work for what we already have.  Regardless of the circumstances, regardless of the mistakes, the truth of the matter is that we are blessed!!!
