A Pisgah Pause

Sermon Text: Deut 34: 4 And the Lord said to him, “this is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob…I have let you see it, but you shall not go over there.”

Sermon Title: A Pisgah Pause

Point 1: Moses looked ahead vs 1 …And the Lord showed him the land…
Look at what God has on the horizon for you. Look at the 7000 promises in the word of God and see how God is going to keep them in 2018. Look out over the landscape as God showed Moses. God is showing you this morning. AS God purposefully showed Moses he is purposely showing you.

Point 2: Moses was still young a vibrant vs 7 Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eye was undimmed, and his vigor was unabated. (NIV) his eyes were not weak, nor his strength gone
The enemy wants you to look at all the hard times you had, but the text teaches us look at how good you look in spite of the hard times.

Point 3: God himself buried Moses and hid the grave vs. 6 and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor, but no one knows the place of his burial to this day.
. God is saying I will even hide his grave so you cannot worship his shrine. God is saying Pisgah means bury your past. Pisgah means let God bury your past. Pisgah Pause means only God can bury something’s. Only God can hide somethings.

Point 4: Moses handed his future over to Joshua vs. 9 for Moses had laid his hands on him[Joshua].
Out of every Pisgah Pause a Joshua should be born. Pisgah’s birth Joshua’s. Pisgah’s is the place where Joshua takes over and bring about a new you. Pisgah is the next iteration of you.

Life Application:
1. Turn lose 2017 and grab a hold of 2018

Sermon Title: An Unlikely Gift Pt. 4

Point 1: An unlikely gift for an unlikely people vs. 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
God always finds the lowest point and works his way up. God always finds the person who is overlooked and looks at them. God always is looking for the person that everybody else is overlooking.
vs. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them.

Point 2: An unlikely gift in an unlikely package vs. 12(a) And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths…
God could have given us his gift so perfectly wrapped we may have thought it was only for those who could afford it.

Point 3: An unlikely gift in an unlikely place vs. 12(b)…lying in a manger
With all the filth, stench, mistakes, problems sin of that place Jesus is the unlikely gift waiting on you.

Point 4: An unlikely gift as an unlikely person John 1: 1, 14 (1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (14) The Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us Isa 7: 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel Phil 2: 7(b) …being born in the likeness of men;
It all boils down to this. God gives us the most unlikely gift of all. God gives us himself through Jesus Christ.
God gives us himself to make sure we like the gift. No one can give themselves. We make every attempt to.

Joshua 2: 9…a great fear of you have fallen on us…melting in fear because of you (10) we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea… (11) …everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God

Point 2: Protect His House Nehemiah 4: 16, 17 From that day on, half of my men did the work, while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor… (17) …did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other…

PericopeNehemiah 1:4-6a

Sermon Text:  Nehemiah 5: 18 Now what was prepared at my expense[d] for each day was one ox and six choice sheep and birds, and every ten days all kinds of wine in abundance. Yet for all this I did not demand the food allowance of the governor, because the service was too heavy on this people. 19 Remember for my good, O my God, all that I have done for this people.

Sermon TitleDon’t Mess with (t)His House Pt 2(a) Invest in the House

Nehemiah arrives to finish what Ezra started.

1.  He prayed1:4 - 4 As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

2.  He paid attention to detail2: 17 Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer derision.”

3.  He pushed back on the opposition4:1, 6 - Now when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and greatly enraged, and he jeered at the Jews. 6 So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.

4.  He put his money where his heart was.  5:18 - 18 Now what was prepared at my expense[a] for each day was one ox and six choice sheep and birds, and every ten days all kinds of wine in abundance. Yet for all this I did not demand the food allowance of the governor,…

5.  He put a praise on it.  6:15, 16; 8:5-6 - 15 So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty-two days. 16 And when all our enemies heard of it, all the nations around us were afraid and fell greatly in their own esteem, for they perceived that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God.

5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was above all the people, and as he opened it all the people stood. 6 And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
