The Widows Journey

Sermon Text: Mark 12:41-44
Sermon Title:  The Widows Journey

Courage for the Journey Review
Benaiah and Johnathan – Biblical Principles and Revelation
·         The sin of omission is equally as important as the sin of commission.
·         Killing lions and defeating the enemy happens for those who seize the moment.
·         God does not want us to live a life of regret.  In the long run, we regret more for what we didn’t do as opposed to what we did do.
·         God brings the same amount of Godness to solve all problems
·         We are born with two fears…by the time we die – we have over 2,000 fears – we learn fears and we can unlearn them.
·         [Prayer] Slotha Aramaic for setting a trap
·         Opportunity –Word means serendipitous window to do something.
·         Prayer posture – OT watchman setting traps for opportunities in 2013
·         New Life has an opportunity to do something great for God – everyone must go on the journey – everyone must pledge after earnestly praying.
  1. Why did Jesus sit down to watch people give their offerings in the Temple (v. 41-43)?
  2. What might have motivated the poor widow to give all she had (v. 44)?
  3. What lesson was Jesus trying to teach His disciples (v. 43)?

Mythical Step #1: The church is only interested in my money.
Truth: God is interested in what I do with my money.
1.    Jesus talked about money
2.    The Bible talks about money
3.    Money is a major part of our culture

Mythical Step 2: My pledge isn’t big enough to make a difference in this campaign.
Truth: My pledge makes a big difference in my life.
41b Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.”

Mythical Step 3: I can’t afford to give with my resources.
Truth: I can’t afford to live without God’s resources.
Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much” (Luke 16:10).
44They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

MY STEPS OF ACTION:
1.    If you have never entrusted everything (your life, your salvation, your family, your job, your home, your future, your finances, etc.) to God, get on your knees this week and commit those things to His care and control.

2.    Start asking God what He wants you to pledge to your campaign. Ask Him to increase your faith to give by His revelation and not by your reason.
