830AM MTM: The Message of the Manger

Sermon Text: Luke 2: 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who hear it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
Sermon Title: MTM: The Message of the Manger

Point I: The Cradle vs. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. What a way to make a grand entrance. Today whenever anyone of any reputation comes into a room there is certain pomp and circumstance that accompanies there entrance.

Point 2: The Cause vs. 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, When we read the heavenly announcement if we pay close attention you can hear them announce the cause of Christ. God wants to reconnect to humanity. The message of the cradle tells us God is willing to save us no matter what because it was for that cause humanity had to reconciled to God. We now have peace with God, but that isn’t all we have to do. We have to make the case for the message of the manger.

Point 3: The Case vs. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who hear it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. The shepherds are now eager to make the case for Christ. They spread the word about Jesus birth.

Look at what happened when the shepherds made the case…vs. 18 all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. In other words all it took was them making the case…the news itself did the convincing. If they heard it they became amazed. If you just tell the story of the manger it will lead to amazement. Or are you telling the story about your Christmas list.
