Salt: The Season for Significance DEVOTIONAL By Elder Shumaker

Salt: The Season for Significance

Matt 5: 13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

Salt is a precious commodity used in our everyday lives. It adds flavor, it preserves and prevents decay, it can change the physical make up of things and when consumed can bring about an intense thirst.

Jesus reminds us that we are the “Salt of the Earth.” We are distinct, we are different and we have been added to a dying and decaying world to have significant impact. We are to be in this world yet not of this world. We are not to allow ourselves to become distracted by the world and lose sight of our purpose.

Wherever we are there should be a change, whatever we touch it should never be the same again. In this dry and barren land we are to bring about a thirst for the things of God. But if the salt has lost its saltiness, it is no longer good for anything.

How salty are you?
