Sermon Text: Hebrews
12: 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of the faith, who
for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down
at the right hand of the throne of God.
Sermon Title: The Best is Yet to Come: Pt. 2
Point 1: Joy
in Running vs. 1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witness, let us throw off everything that so easily entangles, and let us run
with perseverance the race marked out
for us. The writer of Hebrew uses the image of a race.
Point 2: Joy
Releasing vs. 1 Therefore, since
we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witness, let us throw off everything that so easily entangles, and let us
run with perseverance the race marked out for us. The writer of Hebrews also
says throw off some things during the race. Why? Because there is something
called runners block.
Point 3: Joy
Cheering vs. 11Therefore, since we
are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witness, let us throw off everything that so easily entangles, and let us
run with perseverance the race marked out for us. There is a joy the writer
is trying to get us to see that a runner gets that is derived from Cloud of witnesses.
Point 4: Joy
Driven vs. 2 Let us fix our eyes on
Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and
sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Finally, Jesus was joy
driven. In other words, it was not the joy of the cross nor dying on the cross
that brought Jesus joy. I mean really, dying on a cross is not a joyful
experience. It was the joy SET before him! Joy set in front of you is like a
finish line.
