Forgiveness is Fundamental

Sermon Text: Matt 18: 21The Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brothers when he sins against me? Up to seven times?"
Sermon Title: Forgiveness is Fundamental
Ø  Luke 6:31, 37-38 -31Do to others as you would have them do to you. 37"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Point 1: Foundational to our faith
Ø  Genesis 3: 6, 15 - When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.  And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring[a] and hers; he will crush[b] your head, and you will strike his heel.”
Ø  Hebrews 12:14-15 - 14 Try to live in peace with everyone, and seek to live a clean and holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. 15 Look after each other so that none of you will miss out on the special favor of God. Watch out that no bitter root of unbelief rises up among you, for whenever it springs up, many are corrupted by its poison.
Point 2: Failings of a fallen world Gen 3: 21 - 21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
Luke 23:34- 34Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
Ø  #1 – David and Saul – 1 Sam 24:7, 10-12
Ø  #2 – Esau Forgives Jacob – Gen. 33:4, 11  4 But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept. 11 Please accept the present that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me and I have all I need." And because Jacob insisted, Esau accepted it.
Ø  #3 Moses Numbers 12:1–13So Moses cried out to the Lord, “Please, God, heal her!”
Ø  #4 Joseph Genesis 45:14-15 - 14 Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping. 15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward his brothers talked with him
Ø  #5 Jesus – Luke 23:34 - 34Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
Ø  Hebrews 10:27 - but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
Point 3: Forfeit or fuel your future Luke 9:62
Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
·        Ephesians 4:32 - Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
·        Matthew 6:14-15 - 14 "If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.;
·        Romans 12:18 - 18 Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible.

Redemption Revealed: The Redeemer is Coming

Sermon Text: Mark 11: 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord

Sermon Title: Redemption Revealed: The Redeemer is Coming

Point 1: Reversed the order vs. 2, 7 saying to them, "Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. When Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem he reversed the order.
There is one more thing that you have to see in vs. 2. The donkey was borrowed and in vs. 3 Jesus returned it. It occurred to me Jesus was always borrowing and returning.

Point 2: Related to people. Vs. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Clearly Jesus was a man of the people. People loved Jesus.

Romans 7: 14ff

Point 3: Ripped up religion vs. 15, 16 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts.   Second to Sin what separates man from God is religion.

Remember what Jesus said Take my yoke and learn of me for my yoke is easy and burden is light.

OJHS: “…And The Rest Is History”

Sermon Text: 2 Corinthians 3: 2 - 2 You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.
Sermon Title: OJHS: “…And The Rest Is History”
You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
Point 1: Biblical Ink vs. 2, 3 (2) You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. (3 )You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
(1) Establish credibility.
(2) Establish authority.
Mark 16: 15 – 18 & Matt 28: 18 put’s it this way you have authority over demons, sickness, sin and disease.
Exodus 32: 16 The tablets were the work of God; the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets
Point 2: New Life Ink vs. 3 You show that you are a letter from Christ…
Point 3: Indelible Ink vs. 3b …written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God…
Phil 1: 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus
Ephesians 2: 10 he put it in an even better way, (10) For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
vs. 2 known and read by everybody.
Hebrews 13: 10 don’t worry about your money…You will not go without. He will never leave you nor forsake you…the Lord is your helper…
Point 4: Your Ink Living Epistles vs. 2 You yourselves are our letters…known and read by everyone
I want my life to be His-Story. My sacrificial giving is His ink. My pledge is His recommendation to this community that He is a life changing faithful God

Where is the Manger? The Manger is in Me

Sermon Text: Luke 2: 7-14
Sermon Title: Where is the Manger? The Manger is in Me
Point 1: The message of the manger
The message of the manger is God wants to put things back together. Jesus came to reconcile a broke relationship between God and humanity.
Point 2: Maximize the moment no matter the moment
The manger is within me because Jesus came at the fullness of time. In other words, God maximized the moment then showed up.
Point 3: Me and the manger is enough
When it comes down to you and the manger God has given you the ability to get done whatever he asked you to do.
Conclusion: So when you start looking for the manger, look no further than the mirror.

Where is Your Manger?

Sermon Text: Luke 2: 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped in him cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Sermon Title: Where is Your Manger?
1st Place The Place of your sins Genesis 2: 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Adam and Eve didn’t want to admit it but they needed God to show up to forgive them of their sin.
2nd Place In Your Wrestling for a blessing Genesis 32: 26 Then the man said let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” At the very moment Jacob needed a blessing the most—God showed up and wrestled with him.
3rd Place In Your Calling Exodus 3: 4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” God called Moses when he least expected. He was a rejected Prince of Egypt. He was 80 years old. He had 40 years to think about how his future was already fixed for success then he blew it when he was an Egyptian Prince. Now he was just a farm hand for his father in law. The last thing he would think would happen to him was to get a call from God.
4th Place In the Wilderness Exodus 13: 21, 22 By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people. Even in the Wilderness God still does not leave His people without the manifestation of the manger.
5th Place In Your Need for Direction 1 Kings 19: 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper [KJV still quiet voice] When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him… Elijah was distressed and depressed.
6th Place In Your Storm Mark 4: 39 And he arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, Peace be still, and the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. The disciples were on a journey. They were on their way and Jesus was on the trip with them. The revelation is even though Jesus was on the journey with them it didn’t stop the storm.
Conclusion: He said I will never leave you nor forsake you. He said seek him while he may be found…

Is Life Passing You Bye?

Sermon Text: Acts 3:1, 7-8 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God
Sermon Title:  Is Life Passing You Bye?

Point 1: Adjective living – vs. 3 -  When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Every word used in the text about the lame man is an adjective in fact or by inference. Vs. 2; crippled, put near the gate called Beautiful, and beggar. All his life this man has only seen himself through the eyes of others description of him.
Point 2:  Adverb living.  Vs. 2 -  Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts   An adverb, if I have my English grammar correct, modifies a verb. It is also used to connect. It’s in between.
Point 3: Verb Living – vs. 7-8 -  Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God
Verb living is active living. It is when you are not letting life pass you by but are fully engaged with life.

The Best is Yet to Come: Pt. 2

Sermon Text: Hebrews 12: 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Sermon Title: The Best is Yet to Come: Pt. 2
Point 1: Joy in Running vs. 1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witness, let us throw off everything that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. The writer of Hebrew uses the image of a race.
Point 2: Joy Releasing vs. 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witness, let us throw off everything that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. The writer of Hebrews also says throw off some things during the race. Why? Because there is something called runners block.
Point 3: Joy Cheering vs. 11Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witness, let us throw off everything that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. There is a joy the writer is trying to get us to see that a runner gets that is derived from Cloud of witnesses.
Point 4: Joy Driven vs. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Finally, Jesus was joy driven. In other words, it was not the joy of the cross nor dying on the cross that brought Jesus joy. I mean really, dying on a cross is not a joyful experience. It was the joy SET before him! Joy set in front of you is like a finish line.
