Point 1:  The Cloud (Holy Spirit) envelops Worship. 2 Chronicles 7: 1-3 7 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. 2 The priests could not enter the temple of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled it. 3 When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “He is good; his love endures forever.”

Point 2:  The Cloud (Holy Spirit) causes us to be Reflective.  Isaiah 6: 4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.   

Isaiah 6:5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty. 

1 Thessalonians 1:5

because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.

Point 3: The Cloud (Holy Spirit) gives Instructions. Matt 17: 5 5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”.

Point 4: The Cloud (Holy Spirit) changes our Communication. Acts 2: 4 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

1 Corinthians 14: 1-3 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.

Life Application:

1.   Get in the cloud in the crowd

2.   Reflect on your routines in the cloud

Threes a Crowd

Sermon Title:  Three is a Cloud…why you need the Holy Spirit

Point 1:  Cloud leading.  Vs 36 36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out.

Psalm 119:133 133 Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.

He wants to do as them Proverbs say 3: 6 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Point 2:  Cloud lifted.  Vs 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted.

Exodus 33:16For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in your going with us, so that we are distinct, I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth?”

That is the same way Acts 2: 4 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Similar cloud Acts talks about Holy Spirit filling the house then filling or resting in the people. This tells me you can eat manna, quail and drink miracle water from a rock in the Wilderness but never have a filling of God’s presence. Let me break this down even further

a)   Presence but not present

b)   Proximity without personal connection

c)   God is a crowd pleaser

Life Application:

1. Follow the cloud the cloud doesn’t follow you.

2. It’s one thing to be present not just in his presence.

3. Ask yourself why you not in the Cloud

Sermon Text:  2 Cor 1: 4 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Point 2:  Tap into the source. Vs 5 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.

When you comfort others, you create a vertex, a welcoming comfort that comes back to you. Paul put it this way in Galatians. God not naked. Galatians 3: 26-27 26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Point 3: Build up a reservoir.  Vs 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.

Point 4: Move forward together. Vs 7 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

1 Thes 4: 13 3 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 1 Cor 15: 42, 53-54 (42) So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; (53) For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. (54) When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

The Need is Real!

 

Pericope:  Mark 11:1-10 RSV - And when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Beth′phage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, 2 and said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat; untie it and bring it. 3 If any one says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4 And they went away, and found a colt tied at the door out in the open street; and they untied it. 5 And those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 And they told them what Jesus had said; and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus…

Sermon Text:  Mark 11:  3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’”

Sermon Title:  The Need is Real!

Point 1: Specific place…vs. 2 and said to them, “Go into the village… you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat; untie it and bring it

Point 2: Specific time…vs. 2b you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat;

Vs 3…3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’”

We have a small window of opportunity to respond to the needs of Jesus.  You don’t have forever to live for Jesus.

Point 3: Specific job…Vs 7 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus… and threw their garments on it; and he sat upon it.

It was prophetic.  Zechariah 9: 9… See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

You got one job to do! Fulfill the needs of Jesus! Jesus needs you to carry out his work in the earth. He said greater works shall we do. John 14:12

12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. He needs you but God can do it without you so don’t get arrogant.

Conclusion: New Life God has called us to meet the many needs in this community.

Life Application:

1: Study and know the word so you can distinguish your password. 2 Tim 2: 15 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Wait For It!

29 “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace,

    according to your word;

30 for my eyes have seen your salvation

31     that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,

Verse 29 “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word;

Life Application:

1.  Hold on to the promises of God

2.  Attach a scripture to the promise which is the fertilizer of the fruit of the Spirit.
