Pericope:
Gal 6: 1-5 6 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin,
you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But
watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens,
and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks they
are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. 4 Each one should
test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without
comparing themselves to someone else, 5 for each one should carry their own
load.
Sermon Text: Gal 6: 2 Carry each other’s burdens,
and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Sermon Title: GPS: Pt 2 The Secret Service
Gal 6: 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in
this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Now the interesting thing
about that verse is it is, accompanied by Vs 3-5 3 If anyone thinks they are
something when they are not, they deceive themselves. 4 Each one should test
their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without
comparing themselves to someone else, 5 for each one should carry their own
load.

Samuel 24:24 But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for
it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me
nothing.”
Point
1: Put others before yourself. Romans 12: 3
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of
yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with
sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of
you. Don’t push your way to the front of the line. Philippians 2:3-4 Don’t push your way to
the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help
others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget
yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.
Point
2: Jesus requires service to be great. Matthew 20: 25-26 25 Jesus called them
together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them,
and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you.
Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant
Point
3: Scripture requires us to help one another. Someone
said, “Great opportunities to help other seldom come, but small ones surround
us every day” One another at least 16 times in scripture, Rom 12: 10 Be
devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 16
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud but be willing to associate
with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 1 Thes 5: 11Therefore encourage
one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
Romans 15:7 Accept one another, then, just
as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. Ephesians 4:2 Be
completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each
other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Colossians 3:13 Bear with each
other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against
someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Hebrews 3:13 But encourage one
another daily, as long as it is called “Today,”… Hebrews 10:24 And let us
consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 1
Peter 4:9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling
Point
4: Nicodemus served Jesus. John 19: 38-42
Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a
disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With
Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus,
the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a
mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. 40 Taking Jesus’
body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips
of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.
Point
5: Remember Christ put you before himself. He brought
you with a price. Phil 2: 6, 7 Who, being in very nature God, did not
consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather,
he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being
made in human likeness.
