Sermon
Title: An Unlikely Gift Pt. 4
Point
1:
An unlikely gift for an unlikely people vs. 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock
by night.
God
always finds the lowest point and works his way up. God
always finds the person who is overlooked and looks at them. God always is
looking for the person that everybody else is overlooking.
vs. 17
And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them.
Point
2:
An unlikely gift in an unlikely package vs. 12(a) And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths…
God
could have given us his gift so perfectly wrapped we may have thought it was
only for those who could afford it.
Point
3:
An unlikely gift in an unlikely place vs. 12(b)…lying in a manger
With
all the filth, stench, mistakes, problems sin of that place Jesus is the
unlikely gift waiting on you.
Point
4:
An unlikely gift as an unlikely person John 1: 1, 14 (1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (14) The Word became
flesh and dwelt amongst us Isa 7: 14
Therefore the Lord himself will give
you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall
conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel Phil 2: 7(b) …being
born in the likeness of men;
It all boils down to this. God gives us the most unlikely
gift of all. God gives us himself
through Jesus Christ.
God gives
us himself to make sure we like the gift. No one can give themselves. We make
every attempt to.
