What do You do when Your Faith Don’t Measure Up 03.13.16
Sermon
Text: Mark 9:
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my
unbelief!”
Sermon
Title: What do You do when Your Faith Don’t Measure Up (What’s
Wrong with My Faith?)
Point
1:
Enough faith is not enough faith. Vs. 19c… [Jesus said] bring the boy to me.
Vs.
20, 21 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the
boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the
mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” From
childhood he answered. You have to love this about Jesus,
because Jesus is so compassionate. Jesus wants to know how long has the man
been dealing with this. It’s not just how long has the boy been possessed, it’s
how long has this parent been dealing with his son. How long has this family
been going throw? How long has their lives been turned upside down.
Point
2:
Desperate faith is for desperate times vs. 22a “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill.
Point
3:
Mismeasurement of your faith vs.
24b I believe; help me overcome my unbelief
Vs 22 says the man says …if you can do anything, take
pity on us and help us. Notice in vs. 23 Jesus pushes back IF YOU CAN...
EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE FOR HIM WHO BELIEVES. In other words, Jesus was saying
this don’t make this a size of God problem.
When Keara believed Jesus
did for her like he did for the man. Vs.
25 Jesus rebuked the evil spirit “You deaf and mute spirit, “ he said, “I
command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” Vs. 26 The spirit
shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a
corpse that many said, He’s dead. Vs.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
Vs 28b …Why couldn’t we drive it out?” Vs. 29 …This kind can come out only
prayer [and fasting]
Life
Application:
1. Fast
and pray…LORD INCREASE MY FAITH & JOY UNTIL YOU TURN IT AROUND
2. Don’t
ever give up…don’t give in…don’t give out…
3. Walk
by faith and not by sight…what you see/feel will shake you faith will make you…
Small
Group Questions:
1. What
other time in scripture when Jesus told the disciples why did they half
believe? “oh ye of little faith” The Greek means why did you half believe Matt 6: 30, 8: 26, 14: 31, 16: 8. Have
the group to look them up and discuss them
2. Is
there a time when you didn’t believe/have faith fully but then you gain faith
and God turned things around? Please share.
3. Is
there anything that you don’t have enough faith for now and you want the group
to pray with you and believe God?

Brand Jesus 03.09.16
Pericope: Mark 8: 31 – 33
Sermon Text: Mark 8: 32b Peter took him
aside and begin to rebuke
Sermon Title: Brand Jesus!
BP: Move the hearers to pick the right Jesus brand
Introduction: In the text Peter tried to control Jesus because Peter didn’t
like what brand of Jesus he was getting. He tried to correct Jesus by telling
him what brand he thought Jesus should be.
So it is with many of
us. We have such brand loyalty that has been formed over the years that when
the brand change we are willing to take it back or switch all together.
Point 1: Miracle Brand
· Cast out evil spirit in the synagogue Mark 1: 21- 28
· Heals Peter’s Mother in law Mark
1: 29
· Healed leprosy Mark 1: 40
· Healed the paralyzed man who was lowered through the roof Mark 2: 4
· Healed the man with the
shriveled up hand Mark 3: 5
· Cast out the demon possessed man who lived in the graveyard in
Decapolis Mark 5: 8
· Healed the woman with the issue of blood Mark 5: 28 – 30
· Raised the Jairus daughter from the dead Mark 5: 41 – 42
·
Fed the 5,000 Mark 6: 41 –
43
Point 2: Transfigured Brand
All of us want to be changed. No one wants to stay the same. Jesus
is in the changing business. Six days after the rebuking incident Jesus took
the very one on Mt Harmon and was transfigured before his very eyes. Then the
same glory enveloped them.
·
Mark 9: 2c There
he was transfigured before them.
Point 3: Crucified Brand
This is the brand of Christ we generally don’t pick. One it was
hard for Peter and the disciples to believe the Messiah would be crucified.
Second if he was crucified it was even harder to believe he would rise from the
dead even though they had just seen him raise a girl from the dead.. We must embrace the crucified brand.
·
Mark 8: 31c that
he must be killed and after three days’ rise again; Mark 9: 9 As they coming
down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen
until the Son of Many had risen from the dead.

Jesus. Peter tried to control Jesus.
