3.6.16 - 830am Sermon - Too Close For Comfort

Sermon Text: Mark 8: 29 “But what you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”
Sermon Title: Too Close for Comfort
Point 1: vs 27b on the way he asked, “Who do people say I am?” How acquainted are you with Jesus?
Point 2: vs 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. Just because Peter said he knew who Jesus was then he tried to control Jesus. Peter tried to control Jesus.
Point 3: vs. 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priest and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days’ rise again. Vs. 32a He spoke plainly
        [Peter didn’t have a clear understanding of who Jesus was and what he going to do.]
Point 4: vs. 33 But when Jesus turned and look at his disciple’s he rebuked Peter. Get behind me, Satan!” he said. You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”
        Peter tried to counter Jesus. Jesus countered Peter
Life Application:
1.  Don’t try to control Jesus
2.  Let Jesus be Jesus in your life you might be surprised
3.  Get out of Jesus way…let Jesus be Jesus
