YOU HAVE NEED OF POWER

Pericope: Acts 1:8

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

I.            Why Pentecost

a.    Appointed Place

                                        i.    Jerusalem (Jeremiah 3:17; Ps. Ps. 122:3-5)

b.  Appointed time

                                        i.    Pentecost or the Feast of Weeks Leviticus 23

c.   Appointed purpose

                                        i.    John 14:26- Another Comforter

                                      ii.    Joel 2:28-32 fulfilled

d.  Appointed people

II.         Waiting for the Power

Luke 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high (KJV)

a.   Tarry- Greek means, to “sit Down” 

b.  Endued-Greek means to put on, be clothed with Power

c.   Greek words for Power:

Exousia- which means privilege or authority John 1:12; Matthew 10:1; Luke 24:49

Dunamis- which means power and ability; dynamite-  Luke 4:14; Acts 1:8

III.       The Word and the Power

a.   Word became flesh John 1: 1-4; 14

b.  Spirit as a dove John 1:32-33 

IV.        Spirit poured out-Acts 2:1
