Moments That Make a Man
Context/History:
Paul is in a Roman prison days
before his execution writing instructions to Pastor Timothy on how to deal with
difficult times at the church.
Point 1:
Timothy’s Moment vs.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the
servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Point 2: Adam’s
Moment vs.
Genesis 2:15, 19-20 Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put
him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. Genesis
2:19-20 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild
animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he
would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its
name. 20So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and
all the wild animals.
Point 3:
Abraham’s Moment vs.
Genesis 12:1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your
people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
Point 4:
Moses Moment vs.
Exodus 3:4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to
him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”
Point 5:
Joshua’s Moment vs.
Joshua 1:1-3 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to
Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2“Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and
all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about
to give to them—to the Israelites. 3I will give you every place where you set
your foot, as I promised Moses.
Point 6:
David’s Moment vs.
2 Samuel 11:1,4 4 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to
war…But David remained in Jerusalem. 4Then David sent messengers to get her.
She came to him, and he slept with her…Then she went back home.
Point 7:
Jesus Moment vs.
Matthew26:36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called
Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
