Sermon Title: How to Raise a Fabulous Family!

Deut. 6: 3 – 9 - 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates..

Point 1: There must be oneness between husband and wife Genesis 2: 24… 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

·       Oneness is knowing your roles

Ephesians 5: 24 – 29 … 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[a] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—…33 wives respect your husbands… 1 Pet 3: 1 – 7 - Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”[a] 4 Fathers,[b] do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Wives submit…win them over with your holy life…inward beauty…submission to their own husbands…husbands be considerate to your wives as the weaker vessel…so you won’t hinder your prayers

Point 2: One accord is everyone singing off the same sheet of music Prov 22: 15 - 15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,

    but the rod of discipline will drive it far away.  Prov 23: 13 Do not withhold discipline from a child;    if you punish them with the rod, they will not die.  Ephesians 6: 1 – 4 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”[a] 4 Fathers,[b] do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.  Assignment

1.  Lead your children to Christ…the only way you will see them for the rest of their lives

2.  Train them to be successful

3.  Turn your family into a weapon to destroy the enemy and build the kingdom of God

Point 3: The family must be in one place at some time during family life

1.  Family night must include God and faith interwoven

2.  Recognize the eight stages of family life

a.  Beginning families, no children

b.  Families childbearing years

c.  Families preschool years

d.  Families school age years

e.  Families with adolescence

f.    Families as launching centers

g.  Families in middle years

h.  Families in twilight years

Life Application:

1.  Connect with a small group they will be dealing with various issues of family life & sign up for family date night

2.  Make it a point not to miss Sunday or Wednesday this month

3.  Invite a family to church this month
